PAMPANGA Second District Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab is hosting the MPC Interbarangay Mobile Legends (ML) Tournament in Porac town from December 3 to 5, 2021, with the live broadcast of the games being streamed from the Municipal Command Center in Barangay Jalung.
The event is a series of tournaments in each of the towns of the district culminating in an intertown competition, where the winners of each town will compete for the district championships. The tournament had made its way in Lubao and Guagua and is now in Porac for its third leg.
Each of the barangays in the town has sent a team composed of six members who will compete observing quarantine protocols.
The ML Tournament is the board member’s alternative to contact sports like basketball, which have been set aside due to quarantine restrictions.
Pineda-Cayabyab said the event is her way of helping promote mental wellness amid the pandemic.
She said the ongoing ML Tournament is an avenue to remind students to prioritize their studies and finish their modules before engaging in e-sports.
“ML is the least we could have in place of contact sports,” Pineda-Cayabyab said, adding that many in the youth sector also long for the usual contact sports and competitions, which are still not allowed due to dangers of coronavirus infection.
Pineda-Cayabyab had placed in some P40,000 worth of prizes for the event. The champion is set to bring home P10,000, while the first to third runners-up will bring home some P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.
Teams with the best posters will also receive P3,000 for the first runner-up, P2,000 for the second runner-up and P1,000 for the first runner-up. Several prizes were also set for live stream viewers.
Championship games for the e-sports event will be on Sunday, December 5.
Each of the finalists will undergo swab testing courtesy of the board member before the actual games.
